PS2 PS2 Not playing games

Hi,

I have a PS2 Fat version SCPH-39001. It currently can only play audio CD's. However it skips as it plays, until it stops completely on the song playing. It then repeats stuttering wherever it stops.

PS1 games are recognized in the browser ( has the disk picture ) but when you go into it with X, it goes to a black screen, then just kicks you back to the same screen as before. PS2 games dont play, they go to the red screen of death, please insert a PS1 or PS2 format disc.

This is after changing the lens inside the PS2 to a new one. The old lens everything would go to the red screen of death. I tried cleaning it, but then it went to no data instead.

Anything that's recommended to help fix this? Thanks, help is much appreciated. =)

For fat PS2s, if you replace the optical lens you need to use an app called lens chenger unless you replace the lens with the exact same model

Thanks. Is it possible to do that without a blank DVD? The lens that I pulled out of there was the same model as the new one, not sure if that one was also a different replacement. I was given this PS2 not working so yeah.

So, my PS2 is reading Audio CDs & PS1 games good now. However, PS2 games still get the red screen of death. I adjusted the laser strength. So I'm thinking just increase it more checking with my multimeter?

I have an update. I found out that my PS2 is modchipped with DMS3.

If you hold the eject button on the PS2 while its booting, it'll load PS1/PS2/Audio/DVD Videos just fine.

However if you boot normally, with no buttons pressed, no games play. PS1 disks are shown as PS2 disks, which dont boot. Only thing that works slightly are the Audio CDs, which skip as they play.

How do I fix this so that everything plays?

Holding L1 to get to the DMS3 menu when booting doesn't do anything. Is there another way to load the modchip menu?

LensChanger you need to be extremely careful with. If you get the right laser for your model then booting games shouldn't be an issue and there's no need to reprogram the laser's EEPROM. In many cases, you can brick a working laser by doing this, even the disclaimer says that you should do this at your risk.

Perhaps you need to check the solder connections on the motherboard to ensure there aren't any bridges or undone wires.
