PS3 webMAN MOD - General Information Thread 1.47.48q

Hi, my local 1TB HD got full, so I have a backup of the entire set of Games on a 2TB disk connected to my RaspberryPi. I have compiled ps3netsrv and am using it to serve the "/GAME/*" directory.

This works sometimes and others makes the PS3 freeze....actually, the mere process of rescanning and generating the XML, somtimes works and sometimes freezes the PS3 super slim....:(

Btw, I moved this thread into a separate post -> https://www.psx-place.com/posts/344422/

Cheers and thanks,
Gizmo

I just thought this would be a feature more useful than others like.. recording . PS3XPAD itself is kinda hard to configure for a beginner but a lite version that supports DS4 v1 , DS4 v2 and maybe Xbox One controller would come very handy since genuine DS3 controllers are getting rare today ( and expensive )

i think THIS is the latest evilnat 4.84.3 but @LuanTeles knows which one it is for sure.

install the pkg while you have a usb device connected to right-hand usb slot. the pup will be copied to the usb. then you can delete the pup.

Yeap, this is the latest one from @Evilnat but maybe Nat will release something new as he's updating the Cobra 8.3 in his GitHub

I would like to add a suggestion if it is possible: a spindown prevention measure.
Many hard drives tend to spin down after a couple of seconds when inactive and it can cause some minor stutter in games.
It is way more common with external hard drives but it can happen on internal as well. Mine is one of them, the old Samsung drives allwed you to program the spindown feature on a hardware level by using a tool called Samsung HDD Utility, now most internal and external hard drives rely solely on the OS to set the spindown function and if it doesnt have it is set to energy saving by default, causing this issue (most common with Seagate drives, Western Digital drives dont tend to be as aggressive with spindown as Seagate ones).
The spindown issue is mostly caused when games dont access the hard drive as often, mostly when they are running on RAM, but when they need to load stuff again it causes a delay on the loading process since the hard drive "slept".
On OPL it has this function for example, it reads a small, random part of the hard drive every 10 seconds to avoid this.

Try unchecking the option "Disable USB polling" in /setup.ps3
It reads a random sector every 2 minutes approximately.

Hi,

I actually have this issue happening with my disks connected to my raspberryPI....all of them sleep after some seconds of inactivity, which is good on some way as it prolongs the life of the HDDs (no need to be spinning 24/7)...you get less power consumption as welll...

Anyway, in raspbian, you can control/set the HD timeout using drivparm, so eventually preventing the disk from spinning-down after 5-10secs of inactivity....

Try disabling the Advanced Power Management feature using hdparm
https://linux.die.net/man/8/hdparm
-B
Query/set Advanced Power Management feature, if the drive supports it. A low value means aggressive power management and a high value means better performance. Possible settings range from values 1 through 127 (which permit spin-down), and values 128 through 254 (which do not permit spin-down). The highest degree of power management is attained with a setting of 1, and the highest I/O performance with a setting of 254. A value of 255 tells hdparm to disable Advanced Power Management altogether on the drive (not all drives support disabling it, but most do).

Hard drive sleeping is not bad per se, the issue is how excessive this feature is on Seagate drives. A couple of seconds is enough for the drive to sleep.
Since it is a mechanical hard drive, the constant throttling of the motor can have a negative impact on its durability when trying to do the opposite. Even WD Green drives which are programmed on the factory with lower APM values are not as bad as Seagate drives.

And this tip you mentioned just confirms what I said, Seagate drives only stop this excessive sleeping if the OS is actively telling to not do, but the PS3 system doesnt have a feature like that natively (as far as I am aware, but good to know that webman does have this feature), so if you connect a Seagate drive, (as mentioned, more common with USB hard disks but it happens on internal HDDs as well) you experience slight stutters and delays often.

Is there a way to have more than 1 icon for the roms listed in webMAN Games?

Example: I have Sonic 1 in the Genesis folder and I have made an icon for it titled "Sonic 1.png". The icon shows up fine under the list, but when I load the game and it appears on the XMB, it stretches the icon, making it ugly. Is there a way to use a different icon for the XMB?

Currently there isn't a dual icon system that allows one icon on the menu and other when the game is mounted.

webMAN uses the first icon associated to the game. To do that it searches in various paths and various naming conventions.

I just installed 1.47.42 then did a Rebuild Database . The XMBB+ appeared under Game Data Utility and i deleted that . Now i can't acces the Webman Settings on PS3 , only by IP connection . But that's ok, because i wanted it this way, for the kids not to screw anyting up in the settings . But i remember some older version let you acces the settings , a very basic page . Maybe you should put a button combo to access the Settings ? Yeah , another button combo .

Check the wiki. That combo already exists.

I have a genuine PS1 game called Area 51 , i played it on PS3 but i noticed it only uses the directional buttons for targeting and it would be very helpful to use the left analog . This game is a very early PS1, probably they didn't have analogs back then. Is there any way to remap the directions to the left analog ?

webMAN MOD does not remap buttons.

Check if PS3XPAD plugin has that feature
