PS4 PSP Emulation on PS4: Early Stages of Injecting Games / Homebrew on discovered PSP Emulator

First it was PS2 Emulation that came to exploited PlayStation 4's but now the developer's have appeared to made progress towards unlocking PSP Emulation as well on the PS4. As sometimes the case with re-release of games from older generations they contain not only the game but an emulator to play the original files. KiiWii (from GBAtemp) had noticed that Parappa the Rappa (PS4) files matched the PS2 Classic structure, from there a bit more digging was done and it was then concluded that Parappa the Rappa for the PS4 was running on a PSP Emulator. This is great news for the PS4 Homebrew Community and means some new adventures for PSP Emulation on the PS4 are on the horizon. Don't forget on PS4 Linux Side of things as well, PSP emulation is also possible, a recent Linux Distro by the PSXITA Team (psxitarch linux) bundles various emulators like RetroArch/PPSSPP so be sure to give that new distro release a look as well.

The PS3ITA PSXITA Team known for the work in the PS3 Scene with homebrew/cfw/tools has been working on the PS4 lately and they have a NEW Linux Distro for the PlayStation 4 (exploited) they created call Psxitarch Linux which is a based on Arch Linux. This distro contains support for Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Ethernet, USB Sound Cards and then my favorite 3D Hardware Acceleration, which powers emulators (that are included) such as RetroArch (linux), mupen64plus (Nintendo 64), epsxe (PS1), ppsspp (PSP) and also Steam all running on this new Linux distro. Bad news for PRO Models you will be sitting this one out for the time being as your console's are not currently supported the team does provide some additional details in the release notes. The distro also includes various applications that makes this a very intriguing release from the PS3ITA Team,

PS News Will Future PlayStation Game Titles require a key to get fully playable?

When you play your beloved Video Games on your PC, you already know about all the procedures during the Installation by entering a Key, which allows you to install and/or to play the Games, you recently bought. And when this is a "everyday's business" by a PC Gamer and nothing new, Game Titles released on a home console never applied such a system, which meant that if you bought a Game, you was able to do whatever you wanted to do. But this could change in future, according to a new Patent filled by Sony, which would not based - as they call it: "BLOCKCHAIN-BASED DIGITAL RIGHTS MANAGEMENT" - on a traditional system, as above mentioned. There are many speculations how this system could work and it's still unknown if this would mean a better protection against Piracy or having full control about your purchases.

PS3 Hardware Acceleration for RSX GPU in OtherOS++ (PS3 Linux)

Updates about this project can be seen here
d
In 2018 we have already seen so much progress on the PlayStation 3 with a variety of new exploits and hacks that have opened many new avenues for people to join the homebrew community. However, the community developer's still are not done making new breakthroughs on the platform. One roadblock has remained on the PS3 and that was Hardware Acceleration on the NVIDIA RSX GPU, while we have seen the PS Vita / PSTV get HW Acceleration recently and how its has helped many projects on the platform. the PPC / CELL environment of the PS3 offers a challenging adventure with the architecture that the PS3 is built on, that sadly not many have been able to undertake and solve over the years, however that may of just changed.......
Developer RenéRebe has made some great progress on the PS3 in OtherOS++ (PS3 Linux), He produced a video on YouTube detailing the technical side of this breakthrough for PS3 Linux (OtherOS++) that Hopefully (my personal hope) can benefit GameOS one day as well so that we can improve the overall homebrew landscape as well like perhaps finally the inclusion of an N64 emulator(?) or Improved 3d emulation in general, we know the hardware (if emu contains a PPC port) can do it, point to the internal emulators of PS2 / PSP / PS1 emulation to gauge the capabilities of emulation on the HW.

Following the release of RetroArch v1.7.1 and then the recent RetroArch 1.7.1 PS3 Extended Version (from @Ezio / @Zar). The official team has now dropped version 1.7.2 for all platforms and that includes the ports for the PlayStation 3, PS Vita (PSTV) & PSP. While version 1.7.2 is packed with alot of new changes that applies to all builds there is one feature that is quite interesting with the "Runhead Latency Reduction" feature which the devs say gives better latency then the real hardware, the PS3 is a port that supports this feature and is used as an example within the release notes. You can checkout all these new features and additional details in the release notes provided

PS VITA / PS TV TheFlow updates Adrenaline to Version 6.3 - Fixes PS1 Framerates and other new improvements

Before you think there are only new updates and releases for the PS3 and/or PS4, keep in mind that the PSVita has still a lot of potential for being a handy and portable "Homebrew machine", not only for making your life easier with your backups, but also for other useful functions including to play your PSP & PS1 Classics on-the-go. And while Sony recently released a new and boring System Software Update (Version 3.68 is the recent one, if you are really interested), Developer @TheFlow still keeps his software updated, not only by fixing several bugs, but also by including new and useful functions allowing you to have the best experience with your PSP and PS1 Games. And since he keeps this software updated twice in only two days (with Version 6.2 and - as the title already suggests - Version 6.3), this shows even more that there is still a lot of potential for this handheld device.
